Emilia Pettinato comes with a palpable zest and sense of humour when it comes to working with children and young people. Emilia is known for ‘getting it’ and is frequently told by children and teenagers, ‘you understand us.’ This understanding of young people has come through an ever-deepening commitment to seeing people beyond what they do and achieve.
Emilia’s vast experience includes: working directly with families as a babysitter and nanny, before and after school care worker, integration aide, In School Support Worker with primary and secondary students and Youth Development Worker with teenagers who have experienced homelessness.
Emilia currently works as a primary school teacher, photographer and direct care worker within the youth justice system. She has also co-founded EM-POWER Youth Services, and is writing and facilitating programs in partnership with a global organisation to develop resilience in young people.
Emilia recognises and appreciates the great value The G2W Festival offers not only girls and young women, but the whole community. It is here Emilia brings her love of photography to the event each year, as she travels from Melbourne to quite literally capture the amazing light and beautiful reflections of all those who attend. A day worth sharing far and wide!
I love how The Girl to Woman Festival brings together people of all ages and walks of life to share and learn from one another. Very inspiring to be a part of.” ~ Emilia Pettinato
