Singer/Songwriters, Carola Woods and Rachael Kane, talk about what singing means to them.
Singing is such a joyful activity. It is one of the most beautiful things people can do together. When we sing, we have the opportunity to connect to ourselves and to others through making sound. It also supports us to rediscover our inner confidence to express ourselves in life.
Since the onset of the TV singing competitions, singing has become so much about pressure, performing and achieving outcomes, however does it have to be this way? Is it possible that we could just sing for the joy of it?
What we love about singing is that you have the opportunity to really be yourself and express how you feel with your voice through song. We have learnt over the years of being involved in the music industry that the more we sing from our hearts, from who we are, the more we enjoy singing, and the more others enjoy it too.

The most beautiful thing about singing is that it is something that everyone can do. The fact that we can all speak means that we all can sing too.
So what gets in the way of us just simply enjoying singing?
We have found through our experience that when we try to sing or sound like someone else we are pressuring ourselves to perform to fit an image or a picture of what we are supposed to sound like. This leads us on a wild goose chase, looking and searching outside of ourselves for someone else to be. As a result we can’t ever meet that picture, because we are not being ourselves and so we miss out on appreciating and discovering our true and naturally beautiful voice, which is already there, just waiting for us to let it out.
What if everyone has a beautiful voice naturally?
It’s true, we all do, we just have very different ways of expressing it. All that is missing is that we actually don’t appreciate what we have. And what is so much fun is discovering what our true voices sound like. There is no one else in this world that sounds exactly like you! That’s right, we all have a unique voice that has every right to be heard. Your natural voice, unadorned that comes from your heart is an expression of you, and no one else can sound the way you can. We would love to sing with you at the Girl to Woman Festival 2017. We look forward to seeing you there.
