Olive's Everyday

Picture
Meet 13-year-old Olive, who shares with us her thoughts on role models.

Olive: I'm Olive and I am funny, smart, joyful and creative. I love animals, hanging with friends, make up, hanging with my rabbit and dog. I also like making things and watching TV, playing piano, and I love sport. I like eating food. I like clothes and shopping and hanging with my family.

What does being a role model mean to you?
 Being responsible and noticed.

Who are your role models and why?
My family, because they are loving.

Whose role model are you and why?
I'm a role model to my family, because I teach them stuff.

How many true or healthy role models do we have in the world?
There are a lot more that are not true than true.

What makes someone more of a true role model?
Idolising yourself in a respectful way.

Wow Olive, if only I could have felt that way when I was your age. I would have no more thought any of my family as a role model than fly to the moon. Suzie Quatro, Abba (strictly in the vault that one!) and Elle McPherson were the ones I looked to as role models. Can't say anything worthwhile or supportive ever came from looking to them… so awesome to hear someone your age look to real people and for the reasons you say… because they are loving! Again… Wow! What a start to life as a young woman.
