Jane has worked as a doctor for over 40 years. Her career has taken many turns, from working as a paediatrician in Papua New Guinea, in an out patient eating disorders unit in Lismore, a game park doctor in Africa to a GP for many years in Bangalow.
Currently, she is working as a medical educator and GP in Jullums, the Aboriginal Health Service in Lismore. Her main interests are in the areas of women's health and mental health. Jane is passionate about bringing love and care back into medicine and teaches the importance of wellbeing to medical students. Jane offers her medical expertise to The Girl to Woman Festivals during their presentations and discussion groups on health and wellbeing.
Passionate about being an advocate for positive change, Jane and her friend Anne Malatt, an ophthalmologist, are very excited about their blog site called "To Medicine with Love" which has just been launched. This website discusses doctor wellbeing, patient care, self-care, women in medicine and offers support to students in the midst of their medical training.
Our children are our future. Our girls will be the leaders, the workers, the mothers of tomorrow. The gift we can give them is to appreciate and value themselves, their own special beauty and the gifts they offer to the world. With this foundation they can be all that they are and develop into the unique women they are destined to be. G2W offers this gift." ~ Doctor Jane Barker
