COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Wow that was a great meeting of like minded people last night! People who are genuinely interested to actively make a difference within the community, focusing on building awareness in our youth, which ultimately carries a ripple effect throughout all demographics. I really look forward to seeing what we can collectively offer as support to the local community and beyond....creating inspiration and maybe even a blueprint for other communities to embrace. See you next meeting without fail!

I am really honoured to be supporting the promotion of this festival. When I first moved to Byron Bay just over 10 years ago, I wanted to become part of the community and the support it offers and I joined the Auntie Program. Unfortunately funding etc didn't work out for them but I had the opportunity to be an 'Auntie' - female mentor - to an 8 year old girl. Who I still see every week and has recently sat her HSC and attained outstanding results! She is also godmother to my 3 year old son and both our families are super close.
Your initiative with the Girl to Woman Festival makes my heart sing for joy and although I look forward to visiting the upcoming festival, I can't wait to bring along my own daughter in a few years to take part in the workshops and really get a feel for the strong community of women who are here to nourish support and value her and teach her inspiring ways to do that for herself. |
The Girl to Woman is a great festival for the young girls and teenagers in our region. It was wonderful to see the joy in the girls faces as they shared their day in the various tents, with make-up, clothes, jewellery all the things girls love sharing with each other. I also saw the mums enjoying the day equally so. It certainly took me back.
It is very important that we as a community support the development of your young women in a caring natural environment. Many young girls today feel the pressure to be a certain way to attract attention and love from boys and get pulled into acting in ways that are not loving for themselves or self respecting. We need to educate our youth that you can remain true to yourself and still fit in and to cherish what you have been given as a women. There is nothing more beautiful than the sharing that is between a mother and daughter, two school girlfriends growing up together. These are the foundational relationships that carry us through our lives. The women role models and counsellors presenting to the youth were very inspiring, and also an advertisement for young women to know that they have people that they can turn to if they need a little help getting through emotional times, which we all know and remember can be challenging at times. Let’s celebrate the beauty and power of women today and guide them to be the next generation of role models and inspiration for our community. Gail Fuller

The Girl To Woman Festival offers the whole community an equal opportunity to come together to share in supporting and celebrating and listening to our girls and young women.
It is a great day out for the whole family and everyone has been considered in the planning. There are interactive workshops for young people and adults, beauty tents, perfume making, market stalls, along with music and a cafe full of nourishing delights. I have never really seen anything quite like the Girl To Woman Festival and from the many conversations I shared with people from the last festival ... "it is a safe, warm environment that is not imposing and one where we can all share real, honest and open conversations about issues that are affecting every one of us in the community. Looking forward to being part of the next Girl To Woman Festival again next year." Chrissy Caplice

As a mother of a 6 year old and an active member of the Byron Community, I cannot thank the people involved with the "Girl to Women" festival enough for their devotion, passion and hard work in putting this festival together.
The festival creates an amazing opportunity for our beautiful girls to come together and share their own experiences in a manner that is open, safe and non judgemental, enabling assistance with their integration from girlhood to womanhood Imagine, if we had the same opportunities presented to us when we were girls... Thank you once again for providing the Community with this event. Helene Adams

This year Nourish and The Belle will be providing delicious affordable food as the G2W Festival represents exactly what we and our businesses are about – community, family and education on heath and well being.
G2W is the most inspirational festival I have attended to date… a family orientated day designed to celebrate and appreciate all the extraordinary young woman in our lives. It not only embraces and supports our young women but also their parents, friends and/or relatives through what can be a typically challenging time. |
This festival has been put to together by over 100 + volunteers .. I am very honoured to be a part of it, and have been a part of witnessing the way people can work together in harmony when all working towards the same focus. I have worked in lots of industries, big and small companies and I have always experienced dynamics, issues, and even when in small teams that were together for years, all seeming to have the same tension due to long standing unresolved stuff ..
Working and being a part of this event has really shown me how if we make it about ourselves and what “we need”, an individual agenda, it gets ugly and messy and selfish .. But, if we make it about what we have all come together to do, it is clear how different things are, how easy things flow, how less personal everything seems. It’s been a really beautiful process. Thank you G2W team I have learned a lot I will never forget how beautiful and easy working with others can feel. Nicole Wise
